FIRED!
Houston - After leading the Texans to a 25-39 record over the 3 years and failing to make the playoffs the Texans have come to terms with the immediate release of their Head Coach, Gary Kubiak. Coach Kubiak's time in Houston will be remembered more for the constant injuries to key players and an inept offensive attack. Coach Kubiak was hailed as an offensive guru from his time in Denver but the constant carousel at quarterback never allowed the Texans to get in any kind of rhythem and thus held back the coaches from using all of the plays they had drawn up.

Coach Kubiak was not available for comment about what lead to his abrupt departure from the Texans organization. General Manager Matt Kisela would only comment that the Texans wish Mr. Kubiak well in his future endeavors but would not say if the decision to part ways was that of Coach Kubiak or the Texans upper brass. Now the Texans begin the search for a new head coach that can hopefully restore the promise to a young, fragile franchise.

Schaub Out for Season - Texans Hunting For QB
Houston- The Texans worst fears were realized today as the Houston training staff confirmed that starting QB Matt Schaub has been lost for the season with a broken femur. Schaub was hit low late in the 2nd quarter of the Texans/Seahawks game only missed a few plays before returning to finish the game 16 for 32 for 298 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.

Backup quarterback Kyle Boller, who was signed last year, will get his first start since leaving the University of California this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Boller has appears in 7 games for the Texans completing 31 of 59 passes for 438 yards one touchdown and three interceptions.

Phone calls to the Texans complex were reached with nothing but “No Comment” when questions were posed about what the Texans planned to do now that they are down to only one healthy quarterback. An USL insider has tipped us off though that GM Kisela has been frantically placing phone calls around the league in hopes of acquiring a young quarterback that can not only be brought in as a backup for Kyle Boller for the rest of the season but also to be the future starting QB if Matt Schaub cannot come back for this injury. It has also been learned that early this morning, before the new broke of Matt Schaub’s injury that the Texans placed a phone call to former University of Texas QB Chris Simms to come in for a try out.

Texans Mid-Season Report

In what started off as a promising ’09 USL campaign, posting victories over the 49ers and Jags, has turned into a disaster in a hurry. Coming off of a 9-7 season the Texans looked poised to make a strong playoff push with their revamped offense and defense, instead they now sit at 2-6, tied with the Bears, Seahawks and Buccaneers for the second worst record in the USL at the midway point.

Newly hired offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has been quick to point out that QB Matt Schaub is still trying to adjust to the tendencies of his three new receivers, Drew Bennett, Reggie Brown and Jason Avent as well as the new playbook that McDaniels brought with him from New England. The lose of second year WR Donnie Avery for 6 weeks has also hampered the Texans chances to hit the deep pass. The Texans fans though have had less patience. Talking with several fans before the Texans last home game and it was obvious that fans are more than ready for GM Kisela to do something to improve the QB position. Rumors have floated around the Texans offices that Mr. Kisela has made some inquires about bringing in a new signal caller but with the Texans current salary cap number it may be hard to pull off anything during the season.

Not everything though has been negative for the Texans. Frank Gore, who was acquired from San Francisco during the off-season along has put up strong numbers on the ground, leading the USL in rushing with 964 yards and is tied for third in touchdown runs with 6. Middle Linebacker Brandon Moore, who was also acquired in the Gore deal, is leading the Texans in tackles with 43 and RE Shaun Phillips, acquired for WR Andre Johnson leads the team with 5 sacks.

The second half of the season unfortunately does not get any easier for the Texans as five of the eight upcoming games are against opponents with winning records including two against division foe Tennessee Titans and the 7-1 New York Jets and St. Louis Rams. If the Texans are hoping to get any traction they need to come together as a team in a hurry or the off-season will be a very interesting one in Houston for sure.

If nothing else, at least the Texans still employ some of the hottest cheerleaders in the USL
