Redskins Win 1st Playoff Game Under Spiel
Landover, MD-- (AP) It's pandemonium here at FedEx Field! The Washington Redskins have won their first ever playoff game under GM Dan Spiel with a 19-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys! The Skins were able to take the lead with a chip shot 18 yd FG to win the game by Brandon Coutu. Santana Moss and Brady Quinn led the offensive charge tonight allowing Washington to prevail over a Dallas team battered by injuries, yet still put up a good fight. GM Bauer of the Cowboys was available after the game to make this statement. "We played one hell of a game. The Redskins just played a little bit better. I couldn't be anymore proud of our guys for the way they battled tonight." When asked about how it felt to lose all 3 games to Washington this year, Bauer immediately left the press conference in a rage of emotion. GM Dan Spiel of the Redskins was more than joyous to talk about the win. "I'm just happy to get this monkey off my back. Go Skins!" The Skins will now have to take on the task of the fierce Minnesota Vikings in the Metro Dome next Sunday.

Oucho Cinco!
Landover, MD--- The Redskins star WR and a huge key to the success of the offense and the football team for that matter, Chad Ocho Cinco, got injured in the Skins' 24-23 win over the Saints and is now going to be out for 5 weeks missing key games against the defending Super Bowl champs Chargers, NFC South leading Panthers and their arch rivals the Dallas Cowboys. "This loss is devastating to our team this year and puts us in a serious bind on offense. League-leader in Receiving yards Santana Moss will see a lot more of attention from defenses now that his wingman is out for a few weeks. But good teams overcome and one thing that has been clearly shown this year is that we are a good team." said GM Dan Spiel in today's press conference. Ocho Cinco takes out a lot of the big play potential in this offense but the team still has some fire power in their lineup with QB Jason Campbell having a career year and WR Santana Moss who should end up in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl this year. Good news for Washington is that they still control their own destiny to reaching the playoffs. If they overcome this injury, and win 1 game while Chad is out. Then they will have to win 3 out of 4 when he comes back against an easy stretch of the schedule to end the season at 11-5 which should get them into the playoffs at the minimum if not win the division. If they can win 2 games with Ocho Cinco hurt, they will only have to win 2 out of 4 in their games with him playing. Those final 4 games are at Minnesota, then home against Seattle and Philadelphia and then they close the season on the road against Tampa. The combined record of those teams excluding the Vikings is 6-15. The Redskins have more wins than all of those teams combined. So you hate to look ahead as a Redskins fan but as scary as this situation appears right now your Skins still have a very good chance at making the playoffs. But perhaps Chad should rechange his last name to Oucho Cinco after this injury? Just a thought.

Hail To The Redskins
Washington,DC-- For the first time under GM Dan Spiel, the Washington Redskins have sole possession of first place in the NFC East. Another first under the Spiel era, the Skins beat both the Giants and the Cowboys, two teams that seemed unbeatable to Washington in seasons past but not this year. This time around, in 2009, the Redskins have big time stars like Chad Ocho Cinco and Kirk Morrison to contend in the NFC very competitively this year and perhaps even a playoff berth which would make another first for GM Dan Spiel. "We are very excited about our playoff chances this year in Washington. We don't wanna get ahead of ourselves but with our high level of play lately I don't see a team we can't compete with." said the ecstatic GM Dan Spiel after a down to the wire victory over the New York Giants at FedEx Field. The Redskins took the lead with 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter as Jason Campbell hooked up with his favorite receiver Santana Moss for a 47 yard TD pass to give the Skins a 16-15 lead with 1:24 to go in the game.
The New York football Giants however wouldn't give up until the clock read triple zeros as Lawrence Tynes would miss a tough 50 yard Field Goal at the end of regulation as it sailed wide right and the Redskins would hold on to win 16-15 thriller in Landover. The Skins now prepare for another important game at home against the 2-4 Atlanta Falcons, a team not to be underestimated as they carry an explosive offense lead by QB Matt Ryan. Can Washington make it 6-1 this season with a win over Atlanta? Find out this Sunday at FedEx Field in Landover, MD to watch your NFC East leading Redskins take on the Falcons.

Redskins Suffer a Heartbreaking Loss
Washington, DC--- It was 22-21 with 0:57 left in the 4th quarter. The Skins were trying to hold on to the tight lead. In perhaps the most controversial decision by the Redskins coaching staff this year, Kicker Brandon Coutu squib kicked the kickoff after the Redskins had just scored a TD to take the lead. They had squibbed it to the wrong guy as the Giants returned the squib kick all the way to the Washington 48. This set up a quick TD-scoring drive by the Giants as Eli Manning hooked up with Brandon Jacobs for a touchdown with 0:27 to go in the game making the score 27:22 after a failed 2 point conversion attempt. Washington actually put together a decent drive with little time remaining driving to the New York 28 but it was not enough as the clock read double zeros and the game was over. However, the future looks bright for the Redskins. The acquisition of Chad Ocho Cinco was significant in this game. Ocho Cinco had 10 catches for 103 yards in his Redskins debut. This really opened up the Skins passing game as Jason Campbell was 30/50 with 293 yards, 2 TDs and no INTs. Coach Joe Gibbs had this to say about their recent trade with the Bengals "Chad brings alot to our offense. He has that big play potential that every team needs in their lineup. As you saw today, Chad leads to plenty of good things happening for our offense. Unfortunately it just wasn't enough. But the future looks bright for this season as we're still 2-1 and the team is looking forward to our game against our archrival Cowboys."

Bargaining with the Bay Area Pushes Redskins' Playoff dreams
Washington, DC--- After a completely awful start to the 2008 season, the Washington Redskins have turned things around in a big way. The Skins started off the year by losing 4 straight to begin 0-4 and fall to the cellar of the NFC East. Then the tables have turned and Washington began to win some games. Perhaps it was Coach Gibbs changing up the gameplan? Perhaps it was GM Dan Spiel's rampage to the media threatening to make "big changes" if the team didn't start to perform on the field. Perhaps it was Bernard Berrian and London Fletcher returning from injury? We may never know. All we do know is after the 0-4 start, Washington won 4 out of their last 5 games to improve their record to 4-5. Now they are just 1 GB from the Wild Card which is currently held by the New York Giants.

Mr. Spiel knew they needed something big to make a push for postseason play. So this week he made a trade with the Oakland Raiders to acquire the talented LB Kirk Morrison. However it came at the price of their 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks. Mr. Spiel commented on the trade saying "Kirk is a huge piece of the puzzle to building a winning team here in Washington. His amazing talent at such a young age of 26 will do wonders for this franchise." The Redskins front office followed the policy of "Out with the old, in with the new" as they traded Pro Bowl LB London Fletcher who is now 33 and has been battling injuries. Analysts believe Fletcher's best days are behind him. GM Spiel said "Its a shame to lose such a valuable contributor to a franchise but we felt that once we acquired Kirk that Fletcher was no longer needed. Fletcher was traded to the San Francisco 49ers for 4th and 5th round draft picks. Mr. Fletcher declined to comment after he was devastated when he found out he was being traded from the organization he loved and put so much time and effort into.

Looks as if the Bay Area had its effect on the Redskins as they continue to fight for a playoff berth in the 2nd half of the USL season. As they trade with the 2 teams from both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge, they hope they have what it takes to become a playoff contender.
