Texas Flood: Hasselbeck Rains Down TDs on Giants
DALLAS - After their sixth straight trip to the postseason, along with snapping a losing streak in the playoffs, Dallas Cowboys general manager Dave Bauer was not satisfied.
"We lost to the New York Giants three times," Bauer said following the season. "That is simply unacceptable."
However, just one game into the 2011, Matt Hasselbeck and company made sure that there would not be more of the same this season, as the Cowboys came through with a huge win to open the season against the Giants, 35-20. Hasselbeck passed for four touchdowns, each one to a different receiver as the Cowboys passing attack picked up where it left off last season. New York's secondary was clearly outmatched, as the speed of the Cowboys' receivers ultimately proved to be too much to handle.
The Cowboys' defense also turned in an excellent performance. Giants QB Eli Manning was sacked five times and intercepted once, with HB Willie Parker being stripped of the ball twice, with the Cowboys taking possession both times. OLB Bobby Carpenter had a masterful day, recording six tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. MLB Ben Moffitt recorded 9 tackles and an interception and DE Anthony Spencer recorded three tackles, a sack and forced two fumbles. SS Roy Williams, in his first game as a special teamer, made a tackle and recovered a fumble, returning it an additional 12 yards.
Next week, the Cowboys travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams, who were 11-5 last season. |
